International Blacksmiths Day

anvilAs the Smithy was originally a blacksmith and wheelwrights shop, every year we participate in International Blacksmiths Day. Founded in Sweden, the day celebrates the incredible skills which are in danger of becoming a lost art. As the Smithy’s original forge was removed many years ago, we now have a non-functioning model which was kindly custom-made for us by St Helens College students. Each year we invite a blacksmith to give live demonstrations using a portable forge, and extend the displays to include a working wheelwright and other traditional country craftspeople. The Smithy is the only venue in Britain to take part!DIGITAL CAMERA

This year will be even bigger and better than ever, as it will be combined with our incredibly popular Real Ale Festival! For one day only, we will be serving a range of fine local ales, cider, and there will also be a hog roast. Saturday 25th May, 12noon-11pm. Admission is FREE!
